Darwin didn't "steal" the idea of evolution. He never claimed it to be an original idea of his. In fact, evolution was a pretty widespread concept by Darwin's time. What Darwin did was expand upon it (that's kinda how science works: people build and expand upon the work of others).

Not necessarily. There have been plenty of people who were brilliant in one particular area yet idiotic in nearly everything else.
