Was Bobby Fischer crazy?

Amongst other things in the world, what can you say about a society that thinks painting themselves orange, wearing plastic nails and eyelashes and platform shoes. Sticking bits of silicone under their flesh. Where over 20% of the population is on medication for mental ailments.

Where you celebrate the massacre of the people who saved the founding fathers' lives and treated them like guests, by calling it Thanksgiving?

Whether 6million Jews died in Europe or not. 100million humans were killed in the US and you celebrate!?

WTC7 came down in the late afternoon of 9/11 without being hit by a plane.In fell in free fall time of 7 seconds into its own footprint after suffering only a minor fire.Incredibably,in amongst all the supposed mayhem and confusion the NYMayor was ably to organise that night a large convoy of trucks to take away large,heavy pieces of metal framework of the towers to eventually ship to China and thus remove/disrupt vital evidence.

Lets not forget initial news reports of the "Five Dancing Israelis"who were set up with cameras to record the event as it happened.They had 2 vans full of explosives and one van was painted with a mural of an airliner crashing into twin towers!

There was never a proper government investigation into this event.

9-11 did happen and it was a well-planned Bin Laden terrorist attack and it was not a "false flag". 

Every single so-called "fact" trotted out on the internet by conspiracy theorists have been debunked, and debunked repeatedly.  The only open question is the amount of financial or other support given to Bin Laden by Saudi government officials and/or the extended Saudi Royal family.  But regardless of the level of Saudi involvement, clearly the attack took place and was planned by Bin Laden.  Nevertheless, there will always be conspiracy theorists who believe otherwise despite the overwhelming evidence and, curiously, immediately grasp onto and believe any and all made-up fake "facts" and false "evidence".. i.e., LIES to the contrary and there are a significant number of people who don't really believe the conspiracy theories but repeat and spread the debunked "facts" anyway just for kicks.  No matter what one thinks on the subject of 9-11 it really has no place on a website like Chess.com and hopefully the Chess.com community will stick to chess and leave 9-11 conspiracy theories to other websites where those who trek in such things can wallow all they want. 

Fischer had anger issues from his absentee biological Father, an esteemed physicist, who was prosecuted by the Nazis and probably never even knew he had a son as Fischer's mother had the child out of wedlock and fled the country.  Fischer also drop-out of high school and thus his education and knowledge outside of chess was a haphazard mess.  He was also influenced no doubt by reading the anti-Semitic screeds that the Nazis apparently forced Alekhine to write.

Fischer's anger at the USA can be traced to the US government sanctioning him for playing his non-FIDE re-match with Spassky in Yugoslavia in direct violation of the US boycott and sanctions, after which the US government levied a fine on Fischer and issued a warrant for his arrest.  Fischer was only able to avoid facing charges after the Japanese detained him because Iceland interceded and agreed to take him in.  So Fischer had obvious issues and prejudices, but was still an enormous chess talent despite such short-comings.  The Russians did gang-up against him, but he still overcame all and won the WC.  The saddest part about Fischer is that after he won the WC he retreated from chess and he wasted his enormous talent.   Ironically, the other American chess great, Paul Morphy, did much the same after conquering Europe, but he had a very different issue - his wealthy, controlling, Father had threatened to disown him if he continued to pursue chess; so he gave up chess and pursued a law career. Anyway, please fellow chess.com denizens let's stick to chess on chess.com!

I agree with you on your 9/11 points, but your chronology of Fischer's birth is scrambled. His sister Joan was born in Moscow in 1938 to Regina and Hans-Gerhardt Fischer. Stalin wasn't particularly fond of Jews, so the couple separated and Regina left for Paris with Joan. In 1939 she fled Paris for the US. Hans tried to follow in 1942 but was barred entry. Since Bobby was born in Chicago in 1943, it's hard to make a case that Hans was his biological father. Indeed, in the HBO documentary it's made pretty clear that Bobby's close friends and family considered Paul Nemenyi his biological father. According to the LA Times articles cited by Wikipedia, Nemenyi paid child support from Bobby's birth. After the family arrived in New York in 1949, Nemenyi would take the boy out sometimes. But one of the tragedies of Fischer's early life was that he didn't find out that Nemenyi was his real father until after his death in 1952 -- when Bobby was only 9.
