WC Woes
I just checked god's bill of rights, and Carlsen screwed up.
I'm pretty sure the only thing in God's bill of rights is the right to choose
. All of these other rights that we have given to us in Western nations are given to us via a social contract or a government institution, not God.
(/end rant)
There's been some debate about GM Carlsen's withdraw from the qualifying events for the WC match. I feel it's his God given right to not play chess if he doesn't want to, even if it makes for a less exciting even for us "viewers".
Considering his reasoning for not competing was the format of the event. This has me thinking how I would go about formatting an event.
Here are some concerns for the match:
1. It should not be a "random". A lower rated player (say below 5th ranked) should not be able to earn the title. It should be someone who has been proven to be of the highest quality.
2. It should be won in a head to head match where both parties start on even footing.
3. It should not have a massive build up with weaker events giving people the right to compete for the WC.
With these things in mind, I think that simply nabbing the top 4 non-world champion players in the world and having them play a round robin match. Winner plays the World champion for the title.
Thoughts?
