WCC location is unfair to Caruana

Obviously, the only fair solution is to play up to 3 points in Norway or USA, and then vice versa. Then if it is still a tie, they do Chess 960 right at the gravesite of Bobby Fischer.

Oh paper sheet. STOP IMPROVING UPON ARGONAVIS IDEAS.

It's not an improvement by any means, one cannot trust Muricans to follow the rules when playing in their home soil. The match should be played in a neutral place, and so far Mars is the only contender

That’s not a nice thing to say. Country of origin has nothing to do with individual integrity.  Unless someone is in Spain, but every other country you can’t just distrust someone due to nationality.

Wrong approach, distrusting everyone by default is the way to go.

@ TheTacticalMagician, Anand was too old when he played Carlsen and Karjakin was never 2800, but Caruana was 2800 and very dangerous player. Carlsen doesn't do well under pressure, 12 games match doesn't leave for mistakes and one game can decided the match. Caruana is the favor, he is younger and hungrier for the title.

I know I should not feed the troll, but here I go..

Carlsen have not lost a playoff since 2006 when he lost in the candidates to Aronian, since then he won countless tournaments, 3 times WC and about 12 playoffs, how is that not doing well under pressure?   He chokes abit in Norway Chess and choked abit last couple of rounds of London Candidates 5 years ago, exept for that he been cold as ice his whole career

Thus disproving that a neutral site is London or based on distance. Unless its a perfect neutral site then we cant say its neutral. So it would be a site where neither is proven to better or worse off.

Because everything else is just a belief its neutral you see. People say its neutral, but how do we know that for certain? Its just their belief. Until its proven 100% to be neutral, its a totally subjective opinion.

I did not talk about the location of the match,  I just pointed out that "Carlsen does not perform under pressure" is not the reality if you look at his performance the last decade.

If London is neutral or not is a subjective opinion I agree, and I get the argument because of London's timezone and climate is closer to Norway then Florida. However, as others have pointed out these two travel more than half the year and are used to playing all around the world and Caruana just won the most important tournament of his life in Berlin and have been based in Europe for years in the past. UK is also one of USA and Norway closest allies so seems pretty neutral to me.

But if Carlsen does well in the city, how can that be neutral? Is that more neutral than each playing in each others home and the WC played over the internet?

Here we have a player who knows the London system....and gets to play it London.

And so how is this neutral? Carlsen shows up in a wool cap and tweed jacket and british flag lapel pin ,the crowd goes wild....doesnt sound neutral....this is after Caruna finds out there are only 4 channels on the tele and one of them is british comedy poking at America. Everyone is asking him whether he supports Trump...

The match should be played in my local church. Firstly I can walk there, secondly it is nice and warm in November and thirdly the social club at the church does a decent pint of beer. More than happy to let the lads have the combination number for the chess set cupboard after they have had a go at beating the ladies darts team at the social club ;-)

I don't understand why they had the Karjakin Carlsen match in the US. Wouldn't have made more sense to have that in Europe and this one in the USA?

You (and I, since I made the observation in the original post of this thread) actually might be on to something. There seems to be an uncanny pattern in the locations of WCC matches and the winners of the Candidates in the next cycle:

2013 WCC: Chennai, India   2014 challenger: Vishy Anand

2014 WCC: Sochi, Russia   2016 challenger: Sergey Karjakin

2016 WCC: NYC, US   2018 challenger: Fabiano Caruana

2018 WCC: London, UK ...

And so, to reiterate my point in the original post: Congratulations Mickey Adams! Your day has finally arrived!

@macer75 - Cocky bloody colonial. ;-) It is just sad that there has only been one Brit who knows how to move the pieces in the last 20 years. Anybody but Kasparov and Nigel would have been WC.

It's sad, we all know he deserved it...but he's happy anyways

Unless it is Yorkshire I would rather be dead that be in Britain. London is full of cockroaches and that river filled with HUMAN EXCREMENT.

Discrimination...so close to home too

I still have no idea how flying for a extra 4 hours will affect your level of play, but maybe that's just me

USArmyParatrooper

I’m really cheering for Caruana to win but the fact that they set the location long before they know who is challenger is should have shut down all debate on this topic.  I wish I could fly first class to London to play a game love for tons of money.

I don’t think Fabiano is complaining.  Congratulations and I hope you bring your A game! You’re going to need it.

Don't we still rule America and Canada? Isn't Caruana British?

Don't worry about it dude they have a strict policy of letting Russkies in these days.  It helps if you are of course a Billionaire or buying a football team.
