We should kill the king

The checkmate icon shows the King on its side, that may mean it is actually killed. Also, when resigning over the board, usually you throw your King on the side, so it may mean something similar to that occurs.

Probably the stalemated player would lose, since they'd be forced to move into check on the next turn.
