weekend warriors definitely not cheating

I’m sure it’s just a weird coincidence that on weekends I get brutalized by a bunch of players blitzing out super aggressive moves in obscure openings, but Monday to Friday I do quite well against normal human beings who enjoy real chess openings and play at a normal pace. Don’t worry, chess.com, I’m sure it’s all just legitimate variation 🙄

I was thinking this was my paranoia but I regularly suffer 100-150 rating loss at weekends. There also appears to be a noticeable but less dramatic impact during weekday evenings. My theory is that there are a lot more younger players using analysis boards or bots. If they get caught they just open a new account with yet another new email address. I caught my own son who is a beginner but thrashed me. I was perplexed then I noticed a few days later that his account had been cancelled. I admonished him and explained how pointless was cheating as cheaters are only cheating themselves as it impedes actual improvement. Being caught must depend on how blatant the cheating, whether reported or not, and possibly its regularity. Anecdotal user experience seems to suggest that more needs to be done. I wish chess.com would do more and explain more - perhaps they can't prevent this.

The perception of cheating levels is orders of magnitude more than the actual amount. The vast majority of games and players are clean
