Wesley So resigned after 6 moves

Fischer always used the old descriptive notation , I wonder how he would have dealt with FIDE's switch to only allow algebraic ?

We are compu... er, real people...Yes, that is the ticket...We are real people.

Why is there a rule against writing down notes?
I'm assuming the philosophy is that the game calculations should be played entirely between the two ears, with no external assistance, which would include writing down information not related to moves already made.

We see people with a good sense of humor all over the world.
Quite the opposite on chess.com as chessdicky shows us how it's done here :)
Neandarthal attacks on people who they would be afraid to face in the real world are all the rage.

I have really enjoyed watching this event online, but no player trying to qualify for the candidates tournament should consider participating in this ridiculous tournament until they make some changes.

These guys are So obsessed.
He's lucky they are not rooting through his trash.

“There's that and the argument that finding this a distraction is "silly" when there are so many things more distracting then this.”
Varuzhan Akobian reported to the TD, Tony Rich, that So’s writing something other than chess scores is distracting to him. Akobian noticed that within the span of the first 6 moves! Akobian verified that he was distracted by So’s behavior during his interview with Maurice Ashley. Do not forget that Akobian is a member of the appeal committee for this tournament. This is to say that he knows the FIDE Rules of Chess very well. Moreover, Akobian is a short of big shot at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. He is frequently present at the Club, bossing people around.
In sum, Rich appeared to be constrained “to do something about So”, not only because of rules, but also because of the overall atmosphere of their working condition.

I think So is correct in concluding that Var " wanted a free point " . I wouldnt have such a " friend " myself . However , the fault is with So but I think the penalty a bit harsh .

Shankland was one of the other players to point out to So that he was breaking the rules, and the Arbiter agreed also then. It's just that he kept doing it that eventually made Akobian "the bad guy" for being the last to complain before he was forfeited. Shankland called himself a friend of So, if I recall correctly, but I guess So would disagree about that now.
Check out the words of encouragement on this score sheet, Fischer vs. Najdorf.
