They made a bet, the loser have to read your and 2Q1C's posts forever.

That is why they try so hard to win.

And what happens if they draw?

White reads yours, black read 2Q1C's.

why do humans fight?

Dadg777

The fight is over whether those 2 pieces in the corner can be called a castle or not.

I don't think they're fighting. In my head the pieces are dancing while facing each other.

Hmmm a ballet competition perhaps?

It was a prank war that escalated quickly

What do you mean?

First the white king tripped the black king, then the black king set fire to the white king's tanning salon, which is why the white king is the colour he is now, then the white king retaliated by waging a whole war on the black king, resulting in much too many casualties. They are all selfish pigs which we are moving for fun. STOP PLAYING CHESS NOW SO THEY CAN FINALLY SETTLE THIS PRANK WAR

Bullets don't fight, shooters do. Chess pieces don't fight, chess players do.

I'm not following any of this. Thanks for the effort though.

The start of every chess game is a proclamation of war.

The two sides, one black, one white, sit peacefully across each other on a checkered plane. Then suddenly and seemingly without warning, the general of the white pieces commands one of his men to move forward. And into the direction of the pieces, with whom he shares every characteristic except the contrast of colour, he marches. A proclamation of war.

Naturally, the general of the black pieces responds to this pertinent threat. And in a matter of a few moves the two sides are engaged in a conflict that leaves one a winner and the other a loser.

However, their established rules of war are so well respected and followed that one begins to question why the two sides, so indistinguishable in nature, would ever contest one another.

What are the Chess pieces fighting over?  Time, space and material in order to checkmate the enemy King.

What sparks White's movement forward?

Chess is Siege Warfare in the form of a game.  There are 3 strategies in Siege Warfare.  They are:  Restrain, Blockade, and Execute the enemy.  In order to play  chess this way, which is the way almost all strong players play, you have to completely change your perspective when you play.

The best book ever written about Siege Warfare is Aaron Nimzowitsch's, "My System".

Here are 2 examples.  With the move 1. Nf3 White is restraining Black from playing the move 1...e5.   After the moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 most chess books explain that White is threatening to take Black's N and win Black's pawn at e5 by playing Nxe5.  The deeper understanding (different perspective) of the move 3.Bb5 is  What Siege Warfare is all about.  What the move 3.Bb5 is doing is restraining Black from playing the move ...d5.  It is essential for Black to play ...d5 in order to fight White for control of the center.  The way White is restraining Black  is  by giving Black an exploitable doubled pawn complex if he Black plays ...d5, by playing Bxc6 and  of course Black has to capture White's B by playing ...bxc6 which approximately restores the  material balance in the position.  But the move leaves Black with an exploitable doubled pawn complex with Black pawns at c7, c6 and d5.

There are many more examples I could post.  But, the 2 posted are sufficient for you to get the idea.

it would be nice to see a match where 2 players sat down, and made peace before the first move, and decided to draw. war is sad

this happens more often than you think...agreeing to a draw before the game in the last round between friends to tie for 1st in otb and share the prize money...master tournaments i doubt you will see it though

Bobby Fischer and other western chess players and defecting Russians all said that the Soviet chess players had draw agreements in candidate-related tournaments.

What are the chess pieces fighting over?

The simple answer is: Squares.

Control the squares.

Look through the pieces and see the board.

The board is constant for every game that you play.

I think, it's all a misunderstanding. A white piece dropped something and just steps out of line to get it back, black thinks it's an attacking move...
