What are these accounts?

Maybe they are all members if the same family and that is the way they detect if they are playing vs a cousin or a brother.

Martin literally explained it.  These are the accounts created by the chess.com system when you play as a guest.

That's not exactly what I said. I said they are from a way the site has to play chess that is similar to how the site handles guests. They aren't guests but are still real accounts tied to people.

The usernames are just ones that the site normally has as possible names when a new account is created with the prepend of the letter and underscore being used by that site access process when creating the accounts.

Hmm, I was going to get a screenshot of the automatic name suggestion thing, but I'm not seeing it on the create account option anymore (on Android app or Web).

Anyway, the takeaway is there is a way to play on the site, that creates those usernames when it's used. It's all legitimate and apparently the site is using the old suggested name process to create the accounts, along with the letter_ prepend. I believe those are tied specifically to a person, in a similar way people can sign up and link with Google, Facebook, or Apple ID but automatically creates the username.

oh ok i see now.  its the automatic name suggestions from chess.com when creating an account?  I didn't realize they had that, interesting.

I think in this particular case they are automatically chosen and linked to a person via another process.

Also, it looks like the auto-name suggestion doesn't exist for regular access methods anymore (not that I'm seeing)

So these account are real accounts but they all decide not to use avatar pictures.

well you make a good point.   it is still pretty suspect.  Certainly seem like throw away accounts people do not have pride in or care for.  If they were all guest accounts that would of quelled all suspicions for me lol.  I appreciate Martins honesty.

Again, it's based on a mechanism to play. I don't have access to it, but my guess is that you can't do any of the normal account related processes with it, but that is just speculation, since I didn't receive full technical details. Just that they are all legitimate.

This thread is a very fascinating one. I am here to find out new ideas. All the conversations above done looks more and more interesting. We need to find out the real reasons for those weird accounts. May be later!happy.png
