I used to go to quite a few chess tournaments and they were all broken down pretty much into different classes. Don't let your rating intimidate you. In the USCF if you would start out as an unrated player and probably have a good chance of winning money as a beginner depending on how they break down the classes. I had the mistaken idea you had to be a really good chess player to play in a tournament but that's not true.
What chess.com elo do you guys recommend as the bare minimum to start going to real tournaments

I agree. Doesn't matter what your rating is you can go have a lot of fun and very likely might even cash some money because you're unrated.

I agree, the rating doesn't matter. As long as you know how to record your game moves, and if you can avoid crying or pouting if you lose a game, you're OK.

Finegold has a good lesson on transitioning between OTB and online play.

I would take time to get use to playing on a board and writing down moves, but otherwise, you are ready now.

with 900/1000 elo I went to my first tournament and I won a prize, but u dont really need to have a specific elo because in the tournaments u learn a lot

Look up in the Calendar where and when.

Go there, pay the entrance fee and play.

You can start playing OTB at any rating.
Also, officially rated tournaments aren't the only way to enjoy OTB competition.
You can also play in friendly OTB tournaments at your nearest in-person chess club. Many do it weekly.
i want to eventually go into tournaments irl but im not sure at what elo i should start at, what do you think
