what did we all think of Chess Mates on Netflix?
He never cheated OTB and the documentary confirms that
I think chess.com look terrible from the documentary. Danny and Eric are annoying and misled Magnus into believing they had evidence of OTB cheating
Not a fan of Niemann his noise did nothing to clarify.
Magness came off as petty and karenesque and I’m a fan. Chess.com of which I’ve been a dues paying member since its inception came off as unprofessional and morally ambiguous.
Every voice seemed to be a caricature of themselves.
Eric and danny gym scene had me on the floor bro what were they doing ffs
Oh yeah best part of the documentary lmao
Overall I thought it was a really entertaining show. Very clear Niemann thought he was the plucky underdog of the story, but he came across so arrogant I don’t think too many people will be sympathetic to his cause.
And as an admitted cheater there will be a huge question mark over his every game from now on, and you can’t quite shake the feeling he cheated in his game against Magnus, even though chess.com exonerated him. Something about his body language both in the game and when he was talking about it just not quite right, y’know?
Anyway, what do you guys think? Any Niemann fans out there with a different view?
