What do you do to stop yourself from playing too quickly?

I think one of the main reasons I’m still bad at chess is that I rush my moves too often. Even in long time controls, I tend to play quickly because I calculate a few moves ahead and feel confident in the position, but then I end up blundering something I completely missed.

For players who used to have the same problem, what helped you slow down and think more carefully before moving? What are some simple habits or routines that are easy for a beginner like me to start using?

Find at least 2 candidates moves. For each of them, find your opponents best response. That alone will help some.
