You need to learn tactics but not in a timed environment yet. I'd recommend the easy tactics courses over at the ChessMentor. You can take all the time in the world and review each course many times. GM Patrick Wolff wrote a lot of courses on basic motifs like pins and forks and xrays/skewers. Oh and in order to choose your own courses you don't want the big orange button; you want to look to the right and choose "View Courses". Don't be afraid to try anything that looks interesting, but as I said, tactics seem to give the most "bang for the buck". Good luck!
Oh I forgot about the new tactics trainer over at V3 (version 3) of the site which is in Beta but seems very stable. Look at the bottom of the page under the green pawn. You want Try the New Chess.com. Really improved unrated TT that you can use to practice by difficulty or motif.
Hi, I'm just got a premium account on chess.com and I was just wondering what type of functions I should be using first, meaning should I focus more on Tactics Trainer, Chess Mentor etc...
