What if the Queen were a combined power of Knight and Rook

These are the points I came up with :

  • Queens could do Knight Forks
  • You could move your Queen on your very first turn
  • Scholar's mate and Fools Mate would not work
  • Queen would be a good piece to block passed or isolated pawns
  • Stalemate chances could chances in a King, Queen, vs King would increase
  • Under promoting to Knights may become extremely rare

I will keep on updating this time to time but you post your thinking below:

This exists in some chess variants, and is called a "chancellor". It has a fairly large amount of fans.

It is known more commonly as an "Empress":null

In Seirawan Chess or S-Chess this piece is the Elephant. The Hawk is the piece with the power of the Bishop and Knight. It's nearly the same as Capablanca Chess with the pieces renamed from Marshall and Chancellor, but it's still played on an 8x8 board and you can place one of these pieces on an empty square on your back rank when you move any back rank piece for the first time. It looks complicated but very awesome.

Am I missing something here OP? Doesn't the Queen already have the same power as a Rook?

yeah but I am saying that the power of the Bishop (Diagonal) is exchanged by the power of Knight (L-Shaped)

Now that would suck, the Queen wouldn't be worth more than 6 points instead of her 9 points.

Also the queen would have to use a knight move just to change the color of her diagonal moves.

I think you still don't get it, I mean Queen equals wn.png + wr.png not wb.png + wn.png

I have heard that called the Archbishop.

Federal_romzy

interesting .... but the queen only has the powers of the bishops and rooks she doesn't have the power of the knights and that makes the knights the most dangerous
