For a kid, I think that 1000 is a solid rating.
Kids have just started their lives, for goodness sake. They are probably getting used to chess, but barely.
I am a 1035 from the U.S.A, and so I think that people like me have a decent rating, since I am a kid.
That's all I have to say about US. Adults should get to 1250 to get a decent rating, if they are experienced. I understand that some get confused with pieces and their squares sometimes, some just are in the middle of the two. In that case, a good rating for them is at 900 level.
That's all!
Maybe the percentiles tell a more accurate story than the ratings.
I used to struggle to make the top 15% but am now in the top 5%. Unfortunately this is not because I have gotten better, its because there are many more users and that a great many of them are beginners. Probably only the top 2.5% of users could call themselves "good'" which plainly does not include me.
