Hi, I'm a casual player and my rating is stagnating near 1000, how to progress?

Improve at chess and don't focus on you rating. It will follow.

To improve at chess: Play and analyse your games, read a good book for beginners, solve easy tactical puzzles without help, learn the basic endgame mating patterns and/or study basic pawn endgames. And most important: Have fun while doing it!

It's mostly about following key principles when playing. That approach helped me reach a 2000+ rating, and I teach others to do the same. You can learn them yourself as well. Here's an example of some chess principles: https://www.chess.com/article/view/principles-of-chess

I recommend Chernev’s books logical ChessMove by Move and The Most Instructive Games of Chess Ever Played. These cover how a strong player thinks and some classic middlegame plans. They have been recommended for decades, with good reason.

If you are rated under 1000, the effective way tp raise your rating is to cut down on your blunders and to start taking advantage of your opponents blunders, Sounds simple! And it is. After your opponent moves, stop and take a good look at the board, because it has changed! You need to ask yourself, "if it was my opponent's turn now, what can he do to me?" This simple step will eliminate a lot of your simple one-move blunders. The look again at  all of your possible checks and captures. Maybe your opponent has blundered.? Religiously going through this process--it won't take long at all--will dramatically improve your results
