You're right, but they won't let you say it
What is chess.com doing to protect us from the cheaters?

Cheating
Chess.com takes cheating very seriously: see https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-fair-play-and-cheat-detection, https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444879-fair-play-on-chess-com-what-you-need-to-know and https://www.chess.com/blog/DanielRensch/cheating-on-chesscom.
Having said that, public accusations in the open forums is not the way to address these concerns, so I am locking this thread; please report any suspected cheating to the Support team via https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new and trust that it will be investigated, even if there is no immediate visible action.
To learn more about cheat detection, please join the Cheat Detection Club at https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum

A couple comments:
1. Cheaters are banned when they are detected. @Taurusmale67's links give some information on that, and the Cheating Forum has plenty of discussion on the subject: https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum
2. There are various tools that are used to try to keep them from coming back. Anyone who has run an online forum or similar website is familiar with some of these.
3. Discussion of cheating is not permitted in the main forums, as it tends to get too heated and result in lots of public accusations, many of which are totally unfounded. You might be surprised how many cheater reports are sent in about players rated under 1200 after a game which was a complete blunderfest; if these were all aired in public it would just result in a nasty flame war. Therefore, discussion of cheating is only permitted in the Cheating Forum. Please go there if you wish to discuss it further: https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum
I'll answer that question to you. Absolutely nothing! Banning a cheater (who returns to the site whatever he wants by the way) is not a protection but a consequence. Site administration avoids any dissipation on the subject. They formed a kind of stupid group that does not solve anything. Every topic on the forum on this issue is locked. Is there any discussion on the cheaters taboo on this site? Now lock this thread.
