What is the average time you spend thinking about a move?

hmmmmnnnnn

in the opening , If its a line am familiar with, I would say 5-10 seconds until I spot something out of the norm. then I approach the position like a puzzle.

  1. spot any obvious weakness and look for a way to make my opponent even weaker. positionally or materially.
  2. look for any sacrificial ideas.

at this point its like 10 minutes for the specific position.

in the middlegame, its about 2 mins per move. Again untul I spot a position I would want to exploit.

in the end game,...... what endgame?? am normally taost by then or my opponent has resigned by then

i believe my average is about two minutes per move, but it's hard to tell, i think what is bad i becuase of some unknown reason i move faster in endgames then in the opening or middlegame, and the endgame is the toughest part (for me)!

Varies, often not enough time.

Sometimes 15-30 seconds, but mostly 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Sometimes up to 5 minutes as I will view a position and not move but return later to view the position again before moving increasing the total time spent.

On this site I take anywhere from a minute upward. I play blitz on another site and unfortunately I move too fast, a few seconds, without thinking.     Come to think of it thats what my wife always tells me "....you never think.....!"

Well for me it depends on the situation I am in...

Mostly about 1 minute.  If It's a tricky situation maybe 5 minutes.

i spend about 5 seconds on a move and oddly enough my rating is in 1500's, i tried thinking a little longer but it didnt work and the same outcome came out. 5 seconds and 5 minutes are the same to me, its weird how minds work.

One of the things I like about Chess.com is the per day move option. It allows me to review the game before I make my final move. Also playing a number of games I can try new ideas. How long it takes for me to make a move depends on how hard I'm trying to win.
