What is the reason for drop in skills?

I tried to learn and improve in chess and my skills suddenly dropped. I thought it would last a day or two, instead it lasts for around a week.
Why does skill suddenly drop? There seems no obvious reason. I think my tactics skills sudennly dropped as well. Before, I was able to play on 1600 level, now it is maybe 1550. It feels like a huge drop.
Do you experience drop in your skills? What do you do when it happens?
