what is worse - not resigning or demanding a resignation

title. I think debate over resignation won't ever be solved. My question is - in your opinion, what is more rude, not to resign in a losing position or ask someone midgame to resign (asked person is losing)? For me both are bad, but atleast not resigning makes some sense unlike waiting for resignation. So second one is a bit worse. At higher levels both should be avoided if you consider yourself decent and polite person/player, but under 1500 rating (or even higher) you should think twice before resigning especially <1000 because there is >90% chance your blunder wont be the last one that will decide the outcome.

There is nothing wrong with playing a position out (not resigning).  We are here to have fun and learn which is more important than "winning".

Demanding resignation is definitely worse. If you want to go for a win or draw, even in a losing position, it’s fine. It’s just mean to ask someone to resign.

I agree with Lordgamer.  Despite what some people may say, no one is every obligated to resign.  If a player believes they have won, then it is up to that player to prove it.

I also agree with Lordgamer

Obviously demanding a resignation, I guess.

I mean, it's idiotic, you can't do that

Now, you resign whenever you want to

Also, about what you said about 1500< level. This is a game of mine, look at it:

You can clearly see that not resigning paid off well. I usually resign, but I just felt like playing.

Well…one full queen down, with no compensation…and still 6 minutes on the clock (10’) > playing on is then just a waste of precious time, and for that an insult. In that case I think it’s perfectly legit to ask the ‘loser’ to resign.

This is why I turn off chat. The majority are annoying, and what’s left doesn’t make up for it.

I agree with you.  People can be quite rude.

If you want to be banned, yes.

hardest game to win is a won game... even if there is no compensation there is always the possibility of complicating the position, finding some counterplay, even if the engine says you're 10 points ahead....playing for tricks, a fork or a fortress or whatever... and even if there isn't i've seen players >2000 hang mate in one in completely won positions or just give the queen back... so I have to agree with people above, demanding resignation is definitely worse... I mean, if there game is so "won" then prove it...

Now if you're stalling, just running out the clock for no reason then yes you should be banned because that is just plain idiotic

I know when i am playing with friends for fun I would ask them to resign as a joke but never in a random game

It would just be rude to... especially if you are the one losing

No one has the right to ask an opponent to resign, under any circumstances.
