My favourite style is to play e4 and then to make semi-random moves till the end of a game

These ALL rock my world so identifying one TOP tactic would be difficult! One I've recently discovered is ATTRACTION. I drew a King from one side of the board to the other (to aid in stopping my pawn push one rank from promoting), so it left its only pawn undefended. I did not consider that we could actually MANIPULATE the OP in this way until that game!

My favorite though must be discovered check! Great question, thank you!

In my actual game, it came up only as a threat... it was actually Black's move, not White's, in that position.
