What is your method for reading chess books? (non-problem books)

Just curious what all you folks who have read more than one chess book (and especially those of you who have read many!) use as your favored method of reading chess books?

Do you play them out on a board? Do it in your head mostly? Enter it in a database like Fritz/Chessbase?

And for all you database users, do you place any value on having the actual paper copy of the book after you've entered the game/info in your database? Or would you have preferred to just bought the pgn/cbv file directly so you didn't have to enter the moves and annotations?

Note that I am NOT referring to tactics/problems books here, as those books are usually meant to be solved without a board. I'm more referring to books with game fragments or full games.

I have some books of famous games that I love to play out over the board. There are more ways to enjoy chess besides just playing it.

I read chess books to learn chess. I find that when working on a game fragment, I feel let down because the point/issue being discussed is not demonstrated enough to clearly emphasize the technique being explained.

Depends how long I need to use the toilet for on that occasion.
