I'm starting to like the English, I'm still trying to work on my development at the moment but it's getting there 🙂

Me too.I have been playing it for the last 8 months with winning results and enjoying the playable positions.

The English is very flexible and versatile especially if you like variety or want a Sicilian game with two tempi up.

Depending on the mood, I’ve played the Reversed Dragon, Reversed Taimanov, Botvinnik System, Panov Attack and recently added the Reversed Katalimov.

You could try to get a Sicilian a tempo up by playing 1.a3! And hoping for 1...e5 tongue.png

One my friend once prepared for an otb game for a long time... He studied the opponent openings and so..

Then his opponent played 1.a3

My friend looked pretty angry for a while but then he calmed down and play 1. ...a6

Not really...

1.a3 e5 2.c4 and you have your nice Sicilian position.

1.a3 d5 2.Nf3 c5 and you can have a reversed Benoni after 3.c4. I don't think it's very useful in other positions, though, which is why I chose Benoni.

1.a3 c5 2.c4 and it's just a symmetrical English, where a3 isn't a useless move.

I like 1.c4 because then I can steer the game on move two depending on blacks reply.
