Why not just use the analysis board here on chess.com? You'll find it under "Learn" on the menu. It's free, and you can do just what you want. Why invest in a separate program?

I didn't even think of that. I took a couple years off of chess and used to use chess master 10 and sometimes Lucas chess along with a real board and pieces...this is a perfect solution.

What program do you recommend to accompany chess book study?
How about an exercise program, ya fatty?

There is a Download button but it doesn't store the game in your chess.com account, it only downloads a pgn file. If you usually study from the computer and the tablet it is difficult to keep games synced.
I have Chessmaster 10, but its old and I can't install it on my Window's 10 computer. I am looking for a chess program that I can use to input moves and positions as I read chess books...that would allow me to go back to an early move to trace a new line(s) but easily return to a specified position. Setting up a board is cumbersome and takes up a lot of space., and is a hassle if I have to trace a line and then re-set up a position.
So my question is, what chess software, free or paid, are you guys using for chess study paired with reading books.
