I actually think it's 800. It separates just knowing the rules from having a basic knowledge.
If you look at the entire population of people that know anything about chess most will sit just below this.

Come on 800 is not a dream number, no one going to dream about being an 800 hundred, people will just get this rating instead of dreaming about it lol
2000 is a different story tho
Can I ask how many rapid games it took you guys to hit 2000?
Also, does the puzzles training actually help?
I’m 2300 rated in puzzles category because I’m working on my tactics being that it is the weakest part of my game.
I only ask because I’m 1300 with 210 games. I can see it being a lot of work and grind to climb up so I’ll take my time.
A couple of my friends are 1600-1700 at 1000+ games and we started at the same time.
If I’m sacrificing guitars, poker and golf; the 2000 rating might not be worth it for me to aim.
Thank-you
Lol. I don’t like these numbers being thrown around; 800, 1300, 1400 and 1600.
I’m just working towards 1400.
I wonder if everybody progresses or can hit a growth spurt out of no where?
2000 isn't difficult, the hardest I would say is 1300-1400. Because to go past that point requires an entire shift in your thinking - you guys know the difference between a "beginner's mindset" and an "expert's mindset"? That's pretty much the thing. I can't describe what it's like, but when it finally "clicked", I jumped 600 points in a couple months without learning much of anything new...
I've been thinking a little bit about something like this.
Both beginners and "experts" work to manifest their ideas on the board, but a beginner's ideas come from their own will, while an expert's ideas come from the board itself... and the stronger the player, the less they're distracted by what they want, and the more they're focused on finding the best move.
What do you think?
(I'll ramble on about it in the small text below)
A beginner sees Nb5 -> Nc7+ -> knight takes rook, so then tries to make that work. A true beginner might say a prayer and hope it works, while a more advanced beginner might try to set it up in a sneaky way, or remove a defender in an attempt to force it to work, but the idea still came from them.
An "expert" sees something more like, my active pieces are on the kingside, and my opponent's counterplay is e5. I'll play e5 first to simultaneously gain kingside space and stop my opponent's main idea. Nb5 doesn't make sense because it's moving to the wrong side. Even if I won the exchange on a8 (like the beginner wanted) it would take so much time, and my opponent would get so much play, that it wouldn't matter.
In positions where "experts" are confused they can start playing more like a "beginner" and the stronger the player, the more often they understand the position itself.
For me, the switch happened at ~1600 USCF. Before that I only played like a beginner, and after that I was trying hard to ignore what I wanted, and instead thought about the position.
I'm just curious in general. We all know the hardest is to reach rating 2000 even online , most people never achieved it. Somehow it's this magic number 2000 not 18 hundred, not 19 hundred but 2000.
So what do you think is the second "magic" number, that people starve for but not many can achieve?
Why not 3000?
1000 -> 2000 is (almost) the only rating jump that changes the 4th digit. So 2000 -> 3000 is next.
I personally think second magic number would be 2300 !
Many who dream about 2000 and finally did ot will never achieve 2300 rating. FIDE or online doesn't matter I think 2200 hundred it's quite easy but something is so difficult about 2300 it's like a different game all together.
In real world we see this as well many CM's and NM's can't reach 2300 rating range.
So in my opinion second magic number after 2000 would be 2300.
Before 2000 rating range I think
1000 hard to get, then 1200 , then 1600 (for me it was the hardest to reach) , then 2000
In my experience and opinion this numbers most hard to get before them and after its OK but this particular rating gaps are the hardest to reach.
To me, it is around 1200-1400. I have been stuck at this level for several months
for me its 1400-1500

I mean, our puzzles rating, blitz rating, daily rating, username, number of points, number of friends, number of views, and best puzzle rush score are all similar
