What do you think is different about 2000? You still have room to improve every aspect of your game.

Depends on your weaknesses. There is no magic formula.

You should find something else to do with your time.

But the magic formula IS to improve on your weaknesses. So many players focus only on their favorite part of the game, like tactics, openings, etc.

The simple answer, as LadyMisil and Chris Wainscott state, is to focus on your weaknesses.

In general, the main differences between experts and masters are:

  • tactics
  • endgame
  • openings
  • mental strength.
You can become an expert with just basic tactical knowledge. To become a master, work on longer tactical sequences, and focus even more on your opponent's tactics.

Endgame: Constantly work to improve your endgame knowledge. Be specific. If you are strong in rook endgames, work on minor piece endgames. Always take time to study pawn endgames. Even strong GMs make mistakes calculating pawn endgames (See Grischuk-Robson from the Olympiad as an example).

Openings become much more important as ratings go up. Sure, there are masters who play openings very indifferently. But those are rare, and even those have a philosophy of the opening that allows them to reach positions they like.

Mental strength is the most difficult and probably the most important difference between experts and masters. In order to become a master, you must perform above 2200 strength for a long period. That means you must expect to beat 2200 rated players. Everybody makes mistakes, but a master will regroup and fight hard even from inferior positions. It's easy to play well from a good position. It's much, much harder to play well from an inferior one. One of the best ways to improve mental toughness is to play against strong players on a daily basis. Play blitz against stronger players!

The key is to study yourself and to work to improve your weaknesses.

Btw, "Expert" and "Master" are OTB terms. Chess.com doesn't give out titles.

Well if it were me personally I would celebrate. Congratulations.
