1400 is a very respectable rating you are almost about to enter class A here are the rating classes

Beginners 0-500

Class C 500-1000

Class B 1000-1500

Class A 1500-2000

Experts 2000-2500

Masters over2500

Too wide range for class A. What I find is 1900-2000 separate much from the 1500s.

From the games I played, I will separate into narrower ranges :

  • 1900-2000 : solid players, challenging to beat for players of lower rating. A draw is quite satisfying.
  • 1700-1800 : quite strong, not easy to beat
  • 1500-1600 : decent

A class being 200 points wide is standard (as Ziryab linked).

Perhaps a useful note, 200 points means the higher rated player will score 3 out of 4 on average, so that's one way to think of classes.

Definitely not elite, as someone suggested. That's laughable. 1400 is so-so at best. Congratulations on your mediocrity.

I thought you were just a bad person with a high rating for a second, but it turns out you're just not smart enough to be respectful

Find an adult who can guide you in setting realistic, achievable goals. You are a long way from GM at 900. Most GMs were over 1000 when they were 6.

Keep studying the game. Try watching some speedruns from GM Naroditsky he explains his thought processes as he goes.

My advice: don't focus on distant goals. It's great that you have a dream, but it will take a very long time. This applies to almost everything, and it's a bit cliche (but for good reason), but just take one step at a time, and definitely take your time. You can learn a lot in a short amount of time, but it'll burn you out and cost you in the long run, so be patient and put the work in.

Also, if you want to be GM, you'll want to play OTB. So if you haven't already, do some research on local chess clubs. It's possible your school has one. You'll want to get used to playing over the board, and playing long time controls, it's very different from online Blitz and Rapid.

Very laughable coming from someone who couldn't even reach the 1100s. Not that 1400 is anything close to a good rating but there's a way to say it while still acknowledging the effort one puts to reach such a rating, the type of effort you obviously haven't been able to put in in the 8 years you've been on this site.

Jill. Your profile says you can't read. How can you write? Also, why are you insulting someone who's better at the game than you?

1400 is pretty good, I'd say 1500 is starting to toe into elite or at least advanced. You're probably a bit better than most of the people you'll meet over your life. 95th percentile sounds about accurate, maybe slightly less.

I'm roughly 1400 and I play 1300-1400's, we play ok, nothing special, just being honest, I didn't work hard to get there and I am quite old and not that clever so I don't think it is that good of a rating. I play the odd game, analyze straight after I play. I don't study opening theory, just know bit about the London and a few others. Watched some Youtube chess channels.
