That helps a lot thank you! I made my profile and I hope I can help the players who are willing to have me as their coach. I understand that I have to be a platinum member or above to sell on chess.com my services. But what can I do to spread the word about my lessons so I can stand out amongst the many titled players offering lessons? Any recommendations?

join my video lessons group, I have over 1,000 members who are used to free services, such as the "analyze your games" thread. If you're willing to work for free as I do, the money comes as you build a name for yourself. Just don't push lessons, if people like you and what you can do, they will hire you.
I would recccomend real world coaching also...If you have local tournements like scholastic ones put up posters and just do it. You have to make your self different then all the other people thinking of doing this. When you go out and do something towards your goal you are a step ahead of 1/2 the other people who have the same goal.
I am not a big name coach by any means, but I have taught at local schools and chess camps so I was thinking I could take my coaching to a new level. Overall just teaching will improve my chess and networking with players and making new friendships will offer me good chances that I would be missing otherwise. I joined your group aww-rats so what are the odds of someone like me helping out chess players on your website?

Well, essentially, I broke ground and made a name for myself by doing a lot of stuff for free. I was a judge for a Game of the Week prize in the 4545 league at another site and eventually started making videos of the games. I have the software to make videos which is useful not only for my students to get a copy of their lesson for later review, I can upload them to YouTube. I can share this program and such with you....Since you seem motivated I can work with you as I need more coaches in my group, I have big plans to expand that group and the potential for many new students is going to be a rfeality..
If you would like to speak to me, Skype works perfectly, and it's free. If you don't have it yet, get it, you will need it for online lessons. PM me your Skype name and convenient times to hook up, and we'll go from there.
Anyway, it took me several months to get going. I made a promotional video for my program November 2011. Then, I worked on ways to market myself to best proceed. I joined here November 2011, but didn't start my coaching untul April of 2012. Thus far I've climbed to be the third top selling coach among titled players:

It gives my real name there. Bill Richards.
Anyway, you seem serious, and I'm here to share not only my chess knowledge, but my coaching and marketing methods. It doesn't matter to me if you take potential students from me, I have plenty and work for the common good, everyone's improvement.
So, get back to me when it's convenient for you and I'll be on it quickly and explain it all....
I want to become a chess coach and I think that chess.com could help me find students. But do I have to be a titled player or do I have to talk to the staff in order to be allowed to advertise my coaching? Information about this would be greatly appreciated! :)
