I was playing long ago with no advice. But now the very best advice I can give is to try and play players who are higher rated than you and you will learn a lot from your games.

It sounds like me when I was playing guitar, I used to spend time on guitar forums reading about equipment, but of course, always with the guitar hanging around my neck.

Haha! Yes! Reminds me of all the guys that ask my advice about golf. Only three out of hundreds have ever gone to the range with me to work on what are basic fixes after they ask. They'd rather buy new clubs. Great for the manufacturers. Bad for me if they're with the group in front of us.
