so basically a 13 year old will be very low rated?

No. I'm nine and my online rating is 1456. I hope, by the time I'm thirteen, I'll be at least 1650.

aman makhija, if you decide it your rating will rise faster. With correct training and help from good players, it is possible to elevate by average almost a point pr game. It is possible to reach 1650 after ca. 250 games more.

if you're nine with that rating you should be at least be 1800. 100 points a year shouldn't be too hard. I went up from 1000 to 1650 in two years.

You're kidding? 1456 and nine years old?

You made it quite far for your age!

With the proper instruction, at 13 you can already be near master - maybe even higher. Tell your parents that you want to join a club and get a coach :-)

isaacthebird

I know a 1600 uscf 7 year old.

Well... I do know someone that was a FIDE master(FM)at age ten(now he's 12),a candidate master(CM)at my age(9){which means I have to play him in the U10 group Frown} ,and a FM that is 7 yrs old.

Im not sure if this is good. But a 1329 CFC rating(I just go it yesterday from a tournament!),1449 USCF rating, and a 1675 Northwest chess rating.

ajttja

no way, there isn't any master thats only 7

I know something about youth chess tournaments....what tournament did you play in?

Of course, some people are faster. Keep competing with them, and you'll rise to the top. You're very young and already very strong.

The FM at age 7 or 10 probably got their title because they won an important competition, not because their playing strength is actually 2300.

I've seen kids travel from 1500ish to 2000ish in a year and a half of good training - with good coaching and enough work put in.

From 2000 or so, you'll see for yourself how much farther you'll want to go. It gets more difficult - but some people keep cutting through the opposition as if it was butter...

1449 USCF means that you're already a C player at age 9. Wonderful!! Just keep improving.

gimmewuchagot

Well, I for one 13-year-old, have a USCF rating of over 2050.
