A flexible opening is more for advanced players who know many openings which he doesn’t
I understand the starting disadvantage black has. However somehow that has never been an issue against 1.e4. I still find myself doing a lot more than just defending, and I am able to create plenty of counter play. However with 1.d4, just totally find myself out of options when it comes to attack.
That is why I seemed to think it must be because the position is closed, as there was virtually no attacking options present. However I know now that its just the opening that I used that didnt allow any attack.
I do that, but personally I don't like playing black so I just do first move copy cat

I like 1...c5 in response to 1.d4 to surprise many of my opponent, but I admit this is risky for black if it leads to a Benoni.
First move copy cat is very dangerous don’t do that

Yes, in most openings, black gets into trouble quickly if he tries to copycat white.
@Yuvaleliba I have never given b6 a shot, largely because I love it when someone fienchettos, for it gives me a target for pawn storms and I consider it a weakness. However I open to giving it a try. Could you please elaborate on why you think b6 is a good defense.

if its d4 c4 rhe nimzo indien is very good reaply
