800
What's the difference between 1000 and 1800?

there's an 800 rating difference...that should be a lot. Are you playing the same or different move against the two computers?
Thank you everybody. And any tips on how to beat the computer at elo 1000? I mostly have the basics covered.. like castling quickly, centre control and quite good pawn structure. But in the middle game the computer always finds a favorable exchange or doesn't allow knight outposts etc..

Try to play strange openings against it like the reti opening for white and the hippo defense for black.
I play chess against engines for fun and can win against most of them except the elo 2000+ ones.

Firstly, the apps have a limited set of variations (they don't have the processing power that PCs have).
Secondly, at the 1000s, we make simple plans, and try to execute them while hoping our opponent falls for them (align queen and bishop towards h7 etc..), in which process, we damage our position. Computers can't plan like that (they try to slowly improve position with minimal damage on their own side). Since, its not allowed to play all perfect moves in 1800, I often see some stupid king move put in there which has 0 benefit. With higher rating, their probability of playing random moves is lowered little by little.
Even then, 1800 should be pretty hard for you to beat.
I'm a new player and around 1000 elo here. when I play with the computer (in the android app) I never can beat the one at elo 1000. However I find little difference with the computer set at 1800 too, so how are they actually different? Also, when I play Houdini it always seems less aggressive than the ones here, although I lose in the end..
