The endgame, strategy and the.opening lines make the difference. A 2400 player maybe good till moves 10 but when they enter mid game there is huge difference. Also in the endgame a 2800 player can see winning n losing positions easily. There are some opening lines that 2400 player may not know. I had been 2400 plus and moving up the rating needs lot of commitment to the game. A 2800 player can go many levels deep in count and 2400 might black out and stop functioning. To make a winning position to win and draw against 2800 is hard. To defeat 2700 plus rating you have to play with players at that rank as computer many times are 3000 or below 2400 at that level. (Computer AI do wrong moves that 2700 plus wont do) I left playing the game when I came to know it's not easy for being professional as its not like cricket with huge sponsorship then.
