Or maybe he's just in a slump. It happens to everybody at some point or another.
What's up with Carlsen?
Girl discovery is my guess. Happens all the time
I'm betting it's Liv Tyler.
Are there rumours about Liv and Magnus?

Now there are.
I think when everyone is aiming at you and trying to beat you because you are the best it us harder to maintain such a high level--similar to other sports like tennis. also his rating ascension was so rapid there is bound to be a plateau or even downward adjustments .
Fezzik --he is definitely using many different opening ideas now (some of which even look Nakamura-like ) so perhaps that is it as well. Or perhaps his draw with Crumilier (see both NYT and Chessbase site) in a simul caused the the down trend.
He may be processing some of Kasparov's coaching and like a swing adjustment in golf there's a little slump before improvement. Didn't Fischer have a small down period before going on his final ascent?
He hit a slump. Hopefully now we can stop all of this "Magnus is the greatest chess player ever" talk. Imagine that...hes human.
Actually even thought Magnus is over 2800 he still lacks some experience that other top players older than him have, but if you look at the games you can see why he lost either by novelties from his opponent or by making simple, or not so simple, blunders...
Jobava,Baadur (2710) - Carlsen,Magnus (2826)
39th Olympiad Khanty-Mansiysk 2010 (4), 24.09.2010
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3 Bxc3+ 5.bxc3 Nc6 6.e4!? <---Novelty, well it wasn't really played above the 2000 level so Carlsen probably was not fully prepared.
Adams,Michael (2728) - Carlsen,Magnus (2826) [B06]
39th Olympiad Men Khanty-Mansiysk RUS (6.18), 27.09.2010
1.e4 g6 2.d4 Nf6?! <---Really??
Kramnik,Vladimir (2780) - Carlsen,Magnus (2826) [E15]
Grand Slam Final Masters Bilbao ESP (1), 09.10.2010
1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 b6 4.g3 Ba6 5.Qa4 Bb7 6.Bg2 c5 7.dxc5 bxc5 8.0-0 Be7 9.Nc3 0-0 10.Rd1 Qb6 11.Bf4 Rd8 12.Rab1 h6 13.Qb5N <---Novelty and Carlsen hadn't played the Queen's Indian in a while.
Carlsen,Magnus (2826) - Anand,Viswanathan (2800) [C65]
Grand Slam Final Masters Bilbao ESP (2), 10.10.2010
Carlsen blundered in an ending against Anand who is the World Champion.
So it is not really bad as it all may seem...

Not been posted here yet -- the goldenboy has lost something like 5 of his last 10 games, more losses in 2 tournaments than he'd lost in the entire previous season. So what's the speculation on this? Too busy playing dressup these days to be in good form?
