So this is the chess analogue to the Erdos number in mathematical publications?

 I wish in an offical game.  Years ago at a tournament they gave a simul.

It is exactly that. I am not entirely sure whether the Erdos number or the Kevin Bacon number has precedence for the concept.

My Pogonina number is 2 - I played WIM Batchimeg Tushvintugs who played IM Krush who has played WGM Pogonina.

I guess I have a 6, by playing a friend of mine who played Ftacnik who played Denker.

I have a Morphy number of 5 via 1.Henry Bird, James Mortimer, 2.Ossip Bernstein, Emanuel Lasker, Savielly Tartakover, 3.Pal Benko, Feodor Bohatirchuk, Bent Larsen, Abe Yanofsky and 4.Lawrence Day, Zvonko Vranesic.

I was thinking about this and I actually have got a Morphy number (6). There was a player at my old club in the north of England whom I played a few times (>25 years ago). He had played Nigel Short when he was very young and played at Bolton CC. 

 no wonder she didn't answer.

I have Morphy #6, by playing my son (#5), who played Bruce Matzner (#4), who played Euwe (#3).

My Morphy number is at highest a 6.

Living in Denmark, most older players than me have played Bent Larsen at some point, and he is a 4.

But the most certain way is that I have played (and beaten!) Magnus Carlsen in a tournament game, who has at least played Nigel Short from the 4-list.

I wonder if that might be a winning 6-score? Has Magnus ever beaten Short? And have Short beaten someone on the 3 list? And aaaaall the way back to Morphy? That could be fun to know!
