Looks like it was registered Aug 11 1994
It was mainly a website to sell a product called "chess mentor" which wouldn't be what current chess.com developed with Silman later.
I assume sometime in 2007 Erik won it during that auction.
In May 2007 Erik and Jay's chess.com was in beta. This can be verified by looking at Erik's account creation date.
Also this is the oldest forum topic I could find.
In June 2007 what we might call V1 was born, it was out of beta and open to the public.
