That's not possible. The king would have been checkmated/ stalemated by then

Of course, it's possible. You just need to use other pieces to block your queens.

Against a player of about the same rating I keep on playing while I still have enough material to chekmate the king. I never go for the stale mate, but I do sometimes look for a way to force a repetition of moves.

 

Against a much higher rated player I resign when I am down a piece and a few pawns without positional compensation

Well, I go for the stalemate against a king and a pawn and a minor piece, but never against king + rook or King + queen.
