when you play a tournament does that affect your score ?

If you register with FIDE or whatever the Canadian chess thing is if there is one and play a rated tournament, then that affects rating. Usually there aren’t tournaments that low because not enough people of that rating pay for a membership or take the effort to go to tournaments
thanks for the information really doesn't help with tournaments here on chess.com which i see are many most are too high a level for me to compete in but none the less if i could compete at that level each game i lose would that affect my regular score? thats what i need to know but thanks for the fide input maybe some day ---
when you play a tournament does that affect your score when you win a game or lose a game in a tournament format what happens i am not wanting to go into tournaments -cause i play so poorly i will lose every game and there by go to the bottom if that's what happens- do they have tournaments for just beginners say under 250 or even 300 players to compete evenly -or do they just have tourneys that you may play 800 or 1000 score players and never have a chance to win --any answers?
