The first couple of months I played chess I found that I was spending vaulable time in blitz games trying to figure where it would be safe for my pieces to move when my opponents knight was on the board.  I was always worried about how my opponents knight could move in order take my pieces.  Here is the rule I found that may save some people time.

This second diagram shows positions where it will take your opponents knight two moves to get to your black pawns.

These diagrams may seem obvious.  However, once I realized the rules in these diagrams I no longer was spending time trying to figure out what my opponents knight could and couldn't do.  You know the rule so you can move quickly and know you are safe from the knight.  Now worry about the other pieces on the board instead...

If two of your pieces are on the same colour they can be forked by a knight.
