Which side would you rather have and why?

Removing the f2 pawn, white has no chances at all, sorry for that.

Heh, seems I gave you guys the tough job of finding moves in this uncommon type of position.  I was just wondering why in general you'd like one side.  I suppose you figured black's piece play is more straightforward than white who (and I agree) wants to advance his pawns but wants to avoid blockades / targets.

I don't like the a2-b3-c4 structure because it seems like an easy blockade and the difference between the a file rooks is appalling Tongue out

That said I really don't know how to advance the pawns, so I guess I'd be more comfortable playing black... not that I couldn't have good results as white but it would be scary :)

Well, thats really helpful...I believe you.  But, how bout helping us patzers out with a sample line.

If black starts with a passed pawn I think it's a straightforward idea (not moves anyway) to play for the win through that.  We can see black has better pieces, so it may just be a matter of time.

Not that the specific moves would be obvious to me, far from it... but that seems to be the idea anyway.

There can't be any specific moves- but Black is playing on these lines with TWO extra pieces (two minor pieces against a rook, AND his king- while the white one on h1 is redundant). The passed black pawn on e6 will start rolling after black has effectively blockaded the queenside pawns, and... this is the end for white. For starters, no f2 pawn means that the e3 bishop is quite unstable.

Suffice to say that Houdini's first choice when confronted with the position is Bg1, which speaks volumes about white's position.

As far as sample lines go, I wanted to actually post one here, but after having the Chessmaster engine play itself from this position, a 79 move marathon ensued. For obvious reasons, I decided against posting it. None the less, if broken down very well, it appears that this ended up an extremely tedious affair.

I'd like to have the side that wins.
