What degrees of separation are there between Morphy say and the later 19th century, early 20th century players I wonder ?
Keres has a Morphy number of 3 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morphy_number). So, as Fischer played Keres, he has an Morphy number of 4.
Based on the Wiki article I reckon my Morphy number is 5. B H Wood with a Morphy number of 3 played in the West Midlands of England. I must have played someone who played him over the years.
I played an Indian dude that played Vishy Anand on a simul and Im sure Anand has played with the Polgar sisters which played with Fischer.
IM A NUMBER 5 TOO.
I have a Morphy number of 4. Played IM Bob Wade whose chess workshops at Morley College I attended in the early 70s. Wade, already an old geezer by then, had played Tartakower in his younger days. Tartakower, according to the site referenced by 'Seventies Rock Man' ericbowiereed, had a 2 and the same source confirms Wade as a 3. Can also make 4 via Larsen (see my earlier post) who clocks in at a 3 and possibly also via one or two other routes. Looking at the list of 2s and 3s, I doubt if there are many chess players (GM or otherwise) alive today who can claim a Morphy number of 3.
Two here.
