here is my dilema, i have barely studied any books and have played for many years. i need help with openings???

urk
Joe, since you've played for years you have a pretty good idea what the different openings are. So decide what you want to play and get a book on it. There are thousands of opening books.
And this site has some pretty good educational material on openings if you're a member.

2. Played against Larsen in a simul lasting 14 moves against the gimlet eyed Dane. A little after the time Fischer beat him 6-0 during the early to mid 70s. Yes, just as Bent was totally demo'd by Bobby, I was totally demo'd by Bent.

I always enjoy your posts, Karpak.

Sorry to be so boring as to return to the topic - but can somebody confirm that I have a Fischer number of 4? I once beat a man (his score against me is 3-1 to him, but never mind) who once beat a man who once beat Mikhail Tal (in a simul, but never mind that either). Given that Tal had a plus score against Fischer as recently as over 50 years ago, I think that gives me a victorious Fischer number of 4!

Did Fischer play on chess.com?

yes but anything over 4 would be incredibly surprising. Six degrees of separation and all that stuff. if you've played a lot OTB you're probably a 3 but just don't know it.

Tal was World Champion in 1960. Fischer was in 1972. So Tal won Fischer when Fischer was very young. After that they become friends and Fischer played with Tal many times, also when Tal was hospitalized and won.

I have played James Sherwin, so my Fischer number is 2

urk
M&P did Sherwin use a pinky finger to move a piece?

My Carlsen number is 3 :)

Fischer? God, who cares.
Boyangzhao

My Carlsen number is 3 (played Aleksandr Lenderman, who I don't think played Carlsen, but definitely played Nakamura and Caruana in the US championships)

I wonder if playing Short would count as 2.

I have beaten a club mate who beat Korchnoi in a simul. Korchnoi has beaten Fischer. So I suppose I'm a three.

I've shaken hands with a man who shook hands with a man who shook hands with the Fuhrer. My Hitler number is four.
