Who invented chess

Chess originated in India, I know that. Who invented it, I don't know. My speculation is that it wasn't the idea of one person, but more then likely several ideas put together by a group of people. Ancient chess versions, such as Xiangqi is still played worldwide. It's not as fun as traditional chess. And I don't know who invented that, either. Now. Who invented checkers and backgammon?

It was actually Dave's brother Ron who invented the game we call Parcheesi.
Must be another bad high school history teacher who led me astray.

Who invented chess
Probably the original game of chess was invented by Indians. Since the original chess set had Elephants in lieu of Knights.
However, as you may be aware the English made several trips to that part of the world in search of silk, tea, rugs ect. ect.. The game was thus changed from its original format to include Kings and Queens.
So grab your chess sets its tea time!
