Who ranked these bots?

Whoever it was was pretty generous.

I am 1400 and worked my way though the bots for fun, and now playing games with Miguel (1900)

There is no way humans with the ranking of the bots would be making some of the mistakes, and seriously i would not back myself to beat any human over 1700 (my best win is v 1540)

But I have worked my way to Miguel after feeling i have the upper hand against all the preceding ones (for some reason Isabel put up a lot of resistance, maybe because she is programmed to be good at end games)

A lot of the others are terrible at end games,.

Miguel couldn't figure out how to mate my king with his queen and king and gave up a 50 move draw much to my amazement.

Even a 1000 player could do this , a 1000 player would be more likely to stalemate or hang the queen.

Look , its all good fun, and good practice, but i am just a bit bemused

Depends on what you are playing. You are a human that can deviate from a path. The bot is programmed to play a certain way and can't. Did you play out a line that is main theory or did you try to trip it up? Even if you got to say move 40 out of a 60 move game, it is programmed to play like a 1900 and not a 2500. It is going to make a mistake.

It would be interesting to see the actual game and whether or not you had takebacks.

SinkingOrSwimming

Your performance % shows you are stronger than 1400 also.

Euchrid_Eucrow

No take backs!!!!  I engineer swaps to weaken their pawns and they foolishly accept them.... then i trade down and come after their weak pawns...  look i cant say i beat them every time,, and i still blunder like an idiot, but i am just saying i am surprised at what their rating indicate

SinkingOrSwimming

Again, this is dependent on the nature of the game. If you go off book early you aren't accomplishing anything. The bot is programmed to go a certain way at a certain strength.

Show the game you are surprised with and compare it with a database of games.

I hit the wall at 2100 level against the engine. 2000+, I would say the ratings are more comparable.
Euchrid_Eucrow

I don't know how to save games v the bots.

Euchrid_Eucrow

So. Sorswim, if I play the bots and keep to theory they will perform better... I had never looked at it that way before,  yes i guess it will improve you if you play to your opponents strength... anyway as chuck implies he hit a wall at a 2100bot while his own rating is 1300 or something.. and either way, what 1900 player can't figure out a queen + king v king checkmate..   this is all not a major issue 8n my life.... but I am just bemused

  • Sinkorswim do you play v the bots if so can you beat ones much higher rated than you

Like I stated before, if you play strange moves you can. If you play more based on theory, then you will find it is more difficult to get a win.

Euchrid_Eucrow

Yeah I guess so  I was just trying to win  v the bots,  not improve theory per se. Still, I never do deliberately weird moves. When I stop blunders and miscalculations, if ever,  I will focus on theory... maybe... honest...

Andrew67275

my best win is against a 1900 and i was like 800 that time

Euchrid_Eucrow

Andrew i would love to hear the story of how you beat the 1900 when you were 800.

How did you even get to be in a match up with him?

Why would you even try to play someone that much higher than you, or he to play you? Was it rated? Have you heard  of the term sand-bagging?

Anyway I am intrigued.
