Who should star as Morphy in the Movie?

Sort:
DarkKnight1980

Jim Parsons or Johnny Galecki from the Big Bang Theory?

Jack Black grin.png That made me chuckle. Imagine the scene in the opera house. Morphy plays his move, sliding his piece across the board with a "Nyaaaaaaaoooo... SKADOOSH!"

I could actually see the far left thinking this is a great move... and then proceeding to call everyone that disagrees with them sexist. Don't give them ideas.

Except neither of them know how to play chess in real life [look at the board]

Hey, you sound like an idiot. If you want to do politics try Open Discussion. [you would be crushed there]

That spacey pic was good.  But I am not sure its important that he look allot like him.   It is more important that it should be someone young.  Because he was pretty young when he did most of his stuff.  I think the contrast between him and his older opponents would be be important.

Use a good casting director database of actors of the appropriate age and look, prefer small stature, as Morphy was small, and shy demeanor. The camera would capture his transformation into a “confident chess beast” at the board. I’m sure there are at least a dozen capable young actors that would be good at first screening. Then have them read for the part. Knowledge of chess is a plus but not necessary.

Thanks for the tips Fungus. I have read in research Morphy did the Opera Mate. Is that when you checkmate with two queens?

Several actors of differing ages with similar looks to portray Morphy at different stages of his life, assuming that the movie is a biographidrama, would likely be necessary.

That game contains no two queens checkmate.

Thank you for keeping track of the number of queens.

Good retort, straight to the insults. I was just making an observation based on your wildly bad suggestion. It was a direct reply, thus relevant. If the Open Discussion forum is filled with people like you that jump straight to insults, I can't see myself being crushed there.

Now look. this discussion has turned to the bloodthirsty trolls. I can't stop it, I can only hope to contain it.

There is one way to stop it.

Hey Vance!

If this is serious, then I'd strongly suggest James McAvoy as a prospective. His performance in the movie split was rather impressive and the crazy flexible personality seems to be his strong suit. Paul Morphy is as you know; known for being the Bobby Fischer of the 19th Century. (He was at the top, then his eccentric madness developed later through the years.)

james mcavoy is definitely not hawt enough to play morphy
