I'd say the shock of the year is the performance of IM Gautham Krishna H. He's showed some crazy performance at the World Rapid and Blitz. He beat many top GMs, and in Blitz, he's currently 9/13, tied with Magnus and Pragg!!

LMAO. but I don't agree with the prag or keymer take. What makes you think that? It's clearly maggie

keymer became a top player out of nowhere and prag did well in the circuit

i dont think magnus played enough to win

Well, I am shocked. Carlsen didn't do anything at all in 2025, he skipped all tournaments and all he played was freestyle nonsense.

Anyone else would deserve the (non-existent) prize more. Even a random club player no one has heard about, as long as he (she) played chess regularly.

Well He preformed in every tournament he played. What more do you want? And freestyle wasn't "nonsense" In fact It had stronger players than some tournaments. Idk why you're all acting like it's a mickey mouse tournament.

OOPs How shameless by me to forget the Louisiana state champion and his truly mesmerizing performances that gave him a deserved candidates seat. I think he deserves it
