ok, lets get the basics down first.
1. ACTIVE KING - this is the MOST important thing, and the easiest. Unlike in the middlegame and the opening, your king is a major attacking piece in the endgame. Activate it, bring it to the center, while trying to prevent your opponent from doing so.
2. learn the basic endgames, like king + pawn vs king theory (google it)
3. In a situation where both sides have equal pawns on either side, the plan is this - activate your king, go for one side, try to create a passed pawn (or force your opponent to defend). Rush over to the other side, gobble up the pawns, and promote. (this is very basic and has many exceptions)
Hope I helped!
I'm wondering what the best resources are for the study of end game technique?
In particulart (for me), I sometimes don't know what to do or how to calculate when you just have like the kings and a bunch of pawns (or maybe like one other minor piece). ...I sort of just intuitively try to move my pawns up the board to try to queen them and in doing so try to protect them from getting taken. ...But I know many times I've been either:
a.) beaten to the punch (with the other side queening first)
and/or
b.) getting my pieces taken
So just looking for a bit of help to improve that area of my game. Thanks!
