Why am I getting worse the more I play?

When I first set up my account with chess.com, I was averaging 1000 for the first year. Most of that was based upon my knowledge from playing in chess leagues as a young kid. (I stopped playing for over a decade until the past 3 years). I started watching youtube channels, watching online games, studying a few openings and their repertoires, taking notes in a leaflet, analyzing games after. And I'm just getting worse. Even positions I've looked over for an hour and then go to play, I'm getting beat. I'll win a few in a row and then lose 5 or 6 straight. What am I doing wrong? It's becoming really frustrating.
