My take on this new coach implementation:

From what I’ve been observing and the limited information floating around, it seems like Chess.com is currently running a beta test or experimental phase with the integration of high-profile coaches like Magnus Carlsen into the Practice vs. Computer mode. This feature doesn’t yet provide full coaching functionality—such as personalized game analysis, detailed feedback, or live coaching sessions—but rather offers a simulated experience where you can play against or with these personalities.

Given the very recent nature of the forum discussions and the absence of official announcements, my hypothesis is that this is Chess.com’s way of gauging user engagement and gathering feedback before rolling out more advanced features. It feels like an early step toward creating a more interactive and enriched coaching environment, but currently it remains fairly limited.

In the long term, I wouldn’t be surprised if they expand this with commentary, post-game analysis, or even live sessions with these coaches, especially since the chess community values personalized training highly. For now, though, it’s best to consider this a pilot or prototype, and I’m keen to see how it develops.

Would love to hear others’ thoughts and experiences with this feature!
