Why are most GMs not good looking?
You know, if you want to have a serious discussion about attractiveness in chess, I suggest not flat out denying certain things, and being open to discussion without being sensitive or offended. You can't post a picture of whatever that is you posted a picture of ^^ and pretend that's somehow acceptable as an argument because there is heavy proportion of UNATTRACTIVE MEN in chess, and I think we can talk about that without drawing negative conclusions. That's just sort of the way it is, in other words, and there's no reason to think that's a bad thing. We can take it a step further, and ask ourselves why is it unattractive beta men, socially low ranking men drawn to chess in first place.

Prove it.
Go in public and record a video of everyone you run into until you have about 100 people.
Then go to a big chess tournament and record about 100 people.
Chess players just look regular. There's nothing disproportionately ugly about the population of tournament chess players.
By the way your alpha/beta distinction is laughable.
Overall I think most grandmasters are not good looking because of grade school. When I was in grade school I noticed something that I saw repeated 25 years later when my kids were in grade school. I played on the school team (and in a couple of tournaments) and it didnt take long for me to feel out of place. The comments, the type of people, etc. The boys who were above average or even good looking quickly lost interest in chess and moved on to other things like football, baseball, girls, golf, or tennis. The ones that were a little more awkward or homely stayed and played chess. I know there are exceptions, but that seemed to be the rule, and probably still is.
sorry lady but you're not exactly Charlize Theron either, so learn to adjust your standards or keep dreaming about unrealistic goals.

i don't think she ever said they weren't good enough for her though :-)
besides looks can change ...

Just walk into any tournament hall. I'm really not saying chess players are bad people- NOT AT ALL. I think they are great people, better than most in fact. What they lack in the looks department they make up for 10x in personality and kindness. I am saying, in general, they are far less attractive and tend to have a beta skew across the board. There's a lot of neurosis in the room as well. A lot of low social ranking men. This is all fact. It's not a judgement. I'm not saying one is worse than the other.
Maybe it depends on what tournament you go to.
In MA, you get a lot of professors, lawyers, and other professionals for example. Are these people of low social ranking?
Sure there may be a homeless guy, but that's maybe 1 out of 50.
But I agree there's more neurosis on average.
Well, I guess I somewhat agree. The GMs and chess players in general could use a fitness trainer. Maybe update their social skills too, learn to deal with people a bit better and maybe more money will flow into the sport. For now, chess and chess players don't have a very good reputation but that can be fixed with some effort.
Things aren't too bad though, especially with Magnus Carlsen as the #1 ambassador for the sport, but others can also do a bit more to give chess a more positive image.
If I ever became a grandmaster, I will look at this post and laugh at it because I know very well that I am a very handsome man.

ugh. we might as well do chess beauty pageants, and tweeting contests while we are at it.
what chess needs is personality. focusing on the players, from experts to pros. interview them on their backgrounds, their chess aspiration, their successes and failures etc. For a public to not just like the game, but to like the players. even class players can have their own hilarious version of reality tv with clumsy blunders, and your typical arrogant talkers getting shot down etc.
i love the science of the game, but sometimes, a big joy of the game is the community of characters it forms. and unites. only fellow players see that side.

There are a number of hot women grandmasters, particularly the Russians. Maybe you just need a new prescription for glasses.
I completely disagree that most people who are attracted to chess are mostly UGLY !! In fact the last 2 USCF tournaments I played in here in Jacksonville FL. which numbered well over 200 players in each I thought were quite Handsome crowds. The females were just down right Pretty , and everybody was friendly and helpful an these were hardcore chessplayers with their laptops and chess software. Just take a walk through your local WALMART sometimes if you want to see some Really Ugly People !!
I think there are two reasons for leading chess players being unattractive. First, good looking men are drawn to activities in which their good looks are beneficial, such as acting, advertising, or politics, but since success in chess has nothing to do with appearance, the ugly people don't suffer any disadvantage in that field so they may be drawn to it in part for that reason. Second, anyone who has seen corpses knows that the way a human face looks has a lot to do with how that person's muscles are actively shaping the appearance, and as a result, even people who looked attractive when alive look awful even moments after death. Given, then, that the person's appearance is to some extent shaped by subconscious influences shaping the face into a nice appearance, chess nerds, who could care less about their appearance and are lost in concentration, are less likely to be good looking.

Completely agree with that...
Hey really appreciate you posting pictures of beta men, albeit facially proportionate men, to buttress your hypothesis there are attractive men in chess. If that's your proof, posting a archetypical beta male just shot your credibility.
